...Mmm. Another fine young thang--DRAKE RENFRO! Another fine young thang who was posted 10 years ago in GODS AMONGST MEN.

I didn't know his name, but there it is right there in his photos:  DRAKE RENFRO...

RIP, COLE RYDER

Ugh!  Who knows?  Maybe if I had the chance to actually meet him, I'd change my mind.  (That's happened to me.)  But at the time, I had it bad for Cole Ryder.  To me, he was exactly the type of guy I wanted to know, and maybe if I was really lucky, I'd actually develop a relationship with someone like him.  He was my fantasy template of someone I'd never know, but I think we all do that when we're younger and alone.

I always knew I'd never meet him in person, but he gave me something to hope for.  I kept hoping I'd meet some fantasy man who checked all the right boxes.  Someone who seemed to be centered with rugged good looks and a down to earth personality.  That's how I perceived him to be.

Anytime I'd see his photos or a video with him, I'd have to stop and watch.  I never got tired of him.  Because he was younger than me, he was someone I always expected to be around.  But suddenly in 2008 the headline pops up, COLE RYDER... DEAD...

I was stunned, crushed.  It took a few months for it to really sink in that he was gone.  I always hoped that career would skyrocket, and I'd say he was almost there.  But he never quite made it to legendary status like so many of the COLT men, those men who are so popular that everyone knows their name.  Maybe if he lived longer, he would have.

So here it is 17 years later, and here I am still rambling on about him.  And I can't believe it's been 17 years.  Somewhere today his photo popped up, and it's because of that I feel the need to post some more of his pictures.  At least he died in his sleep, not from drugs, not from suicide, and not from a long drawn out illness.  RIP

Cole Ryder Remembered

Friends and coworkers described the gay performer who died Wednesday as ‘warm,' ‘genuine' and ‘a big teddy bear.'

Lover Man, oh where can you be?

Sigh...  If you're feeling alone and romantic--all warm and gushy--it's an old, OLD, torch song from the '40s.  For someone who can sing, it's also a great Karaoke song at the bars.

Lover Man (Oh Where Can You Be?):

I don't know why but I'm feeling so sadI long to try something I never hadNever had no kissingOh, what I've been missingLover man, oh, where can you be
The night is cold and I'm so aloneI'd give my soul just to call you my ownGot a moon above meBut no one to love meLover man, oh, where can you be
I've heard it saidThat the thrill of romanceCan be like a heavenly dreamI go to bed with a prayerThat you'll make love to meStrange as it seems
Someday we'll meetAnd you'll dry all my tearsThen whisper sweetLittle things in my earHugging and a kissingOh, what we've been missingLover man, oh, where can you be
I've heard it saidThat the thrill of romanceCan be like a heavenly dreamI go to bed with a prayerThat you'll make love to meStrange as it seems
Someday we'll meetAnd you'll dry all my tearsThen whisper sweetLittle things in my earHugging and a kissingOh, what we've been missingLover man, oh, where can you be

I wish a gay man who can sing would come out with renditions of some of the great old torch songs.  George Michael would have been great at it, but I don't know who could pull it off today.  I'd love to hear any gay man belt out a song about another man, but no one has the nerve to do it.  Do you know of any?

Fine young thang--future daddy...

I've seen this guy a lot, but I don't know his name, hot fur-ball that he is.  Really impressive fur with a hot beefy build.  He's not quite ripe, but a future daddy, for sure.  I like his buddy too.

Bookish men...
